Carriage House Project.

Ten years ago we were in a situation where the carriage house behind the house either had to be torn down or fixed.  We decided to fix it. It started as a big empty building. Framed in 100 year old Oak. None of the framing matched, Nothing was plumb. But we came up with a blueprint, and a theme. Viking/Medieval/Tavern.

Space is 15X30

It took all the money we had to stabilize the building, repair the exterior, seal carriage doors, move the entrance (so it could not be seen from the street) and replace the windows.

Then we were in a situation where if we had time we did not have money, if we had money we did not have time. The work continued over the years.

After sitting a while we were able to run Gas, Electric, Sewer, and Water to the building.

Then it sat.

Then we fixed the interior, Insulation, framing the bathroom, building the loft, framing the Fireplace (gas).

Then it sat.

Then we ran the Electric, installed the plumbing, built the bathroom(1/2).

And then it sat/

You get the picture.

Now 2007 we are at the end, we will be done this spring (Hopefully)

Here is a photo Record.

Initial interior construction.

Bathroom to left, ladder to loft.
Notice hole in floor, Termites.
Original oak floor was not savable.

Framing in the bathroom. to the right are where the Carriage doors were. in the center was the original entrance. The walls on the left are what the original walls looked like

The 1/2 bathroom is complete. The shower will be in the loft. Above the door is the loft

100 year old oak beams. Had to be raised in the initial saving of the building, and reversed. That white stain you see is 100 years worth of bird droppings

Corbels added to the beam. Shaped by power tools with a Viking influence. Hand carved Corbels will be going into 4 slots.

Looking at the wall the Fireplace is being framed in on. Ladder goes to the loft. I would be standing behind where the bar will be in order to take this picture.

Fireplace near completion. Carving need to be finished on the front and the sides. Trim added to the chimney.

Detail of the fireplace.

Rotary Zip tool and carving knives used to do the wood work

Trim stained and in place. Just needs to be grouted.

Designing the Corbels.

Floor is the slate floor in the kitchen.
